"Forever Friend"

Using clay, this piece was created out of 10 moving parts that are kept together using wire. This gives the catfish an organic feel as it is not locked into one position. Each of these moving parts is painted with a different pattern using underglaze and a clear coating layer over that. The 10 different fish I drew pattern inspiration from were:
Triggerfish, Clownfish, Pufferfish, Goldfish, Mahi-Mahi, Emperor Angelfish, Freshwater Angelfish, Betta Fish and the beautiful Pajama Cardinal. I made this decision to encapsulate the energy and beauty of both fresh and saltwater creatures found in aquatic environments. The key idea here is diversity. By hanging this ceramics piece from the ceiling, it demands the space by the medium itself being fragile, while commentary about overfishing and fishing regulations simultaneously.
