[ WARTIME EXEMPTION POLICY ] ├── Rationed Items: Bacon, Sugar, Meat, Dairy, Fruit
└── Exempt Items: Fish and Chips (To protect morale)
During World War II, as German U-boats aggressively targeted merchant convoys in the North Sea and Atlantic, Britain was forced into a severe food crisis. The Ministry of Food introduced a strict rationing system on almost all primary items. Adults were famously limited to just one fresh egg per week and a mere two ounces of cheese.
Amid this widespread deprivation, Prime Minister Winston Churchill adamantly refused to ration fish and chips, affectionately calling the pairing "the good companions".
This sculpture will be up for auction at the upcoming Edward O. Lund Foundation Auction. All work auctioned will directly fund the London Art Abroad Scholarship Program.
Conley Art Gallery, CSU Fresno. Fresno, CA, on October 18th.
